'Tis the Season

We have been having such a great time this month.  The very first thing we did was to break out the Little People Nativity Set for the kids which they play with constantly.  We've spent time decorating our house, although we haven't put our tree up yet, we're not sure that it will survive Derek.  We've been to Temple Square to see the lights, although I think the highlight of the trip, especially for Derek was riding on TRAX.  You've never seen a more excited boy than he was when we told him we were going on the train.  We went to see the Zoo Lights Thursday night.  They were spectacular as usual.  They had reindeer this year, and of course Santa.  We stood in line for a while to wait, but it was sooooo worth it.  Just our family got to go in a room with him and talk with him and sit on his lap and take pictures.  That was priceless seem as we've never taken the kids to see Santa before.  Derek just walked right in and climbed up and sat on his lap like he knew exactly what he was supposed to do.  Karlie took one look and went running back out the door.  With baby steps we eventually got her to sit by him.  We spent all week getting ready to make gingerbread houses, and we finally decorated them on Saturday.  That was a lot of fun.  I think Derek probably ate more candy then he put on his house, but Karlie, our little artist, had a blast designing and decorating her house.  I love this time of the year with all of the excitement and anticipation.  I did all of my Christmas shopping early this year, and I am so glad that I did.  I have enjoyed just being able to spend time with my kids doing the little things that they will remember most and not running around trying to by presents amongst the huge crowds, and long lines.  What a wonderful time to watch my kids and their joy, and lit up faces as they enjoy all of the sights of the season.  I'm looking forward to doing more exciting things with them these next couple of weeks and just enjoying them this time of the year.
